Steel Tech Inc. (STI) was founded in 1989 by second-generation custom fabricator, Scott Smith. The business was originally located in Columbia Heights, Minnesota in a shop of approximately 2000 square feet.

By 1999, STI outgrew its facilities and completed a large addition to the building. Along with the expanded square footage, the ceilings were raised to 24’ to accommodate the large over bridge crane.
